MVP Fab 5 Football Division VI Rankings: Preseason
`
We’re back again with the third annual MVP Fab 5 Football Rankings. Today we cap our 2011 Preseason Polls by releasing Division VI.
Here’s a look at our Preseason Division VI Rankings…

1. St. Henry (3-7)
* Players to Watch – QB Kyle Stahl (6-5, 225, jr.), TE/LB/K Alex Post (6-2, 200, jr.), DB Jordan Bender (6-0, 170, jr.), DB Nate Uhlenhake (5-11, 160, sr.), DL Dom Leugers (6-2 200, jr.), WR Matt Osterholt (5-9, 165, jr.), LB Steven Luttmer (5-11, 200, sr.), DL Nathen Froning (6-0, 215, sr.), OL Dylan Bruening (6-3, 230, jr.), OL Ben Werling (6-1, 250, sr.), OL Mitchell Rinderle (6-3, 240, sr.)
* Outlook – The Redskins drop back down to D-VI where they’ve won half of their six state titles and look to add No. 7. Stahl is one of the state’s top QB prospects regardless of class and threw for 2,480 yards and 19 TDs last season. Post is one of the most versatile players in the MAC (76 tackles, 18 receptions, 232 yards, 21-25 PAT). Bender (38 tackles), Uhlenhake (39), Leugers (49), Luttmer (59) and Froning (39) are defensive veterans. Bruening, Werling and Rinderle anchor a sizeable OL. Head coach Jeff Starkey is 63-31 in seven years with St. Henry and owns two state titles (2004, 2006).
Opener: vs Marion Pleasant

2. Minster (7-6, D-VI R24 Regional Finalist)
* Players to Watch – WR/LB Daniel Gusching (6-2, 210, sr.), WR/DB Derek Collins (6-1, 165, sr.), OL/DL Clay Bornhorst (6-1, 235, sr.), OL/DL Ryan Will (6-2, 220, sr.), WR/DB Andrew Knapke (6-1, 170, sr.), TE/DL Rob Wente (6-2, 230, sr.), OL/DL Eddie Bruns (5-10″, 210, sr.), WR/DB Devon Poeppleman (6-0, 190, jr.), RB/LB Troy Kauffman (5-10″, 170, jr.), QB/DB Adam Niemeyer (6-2, 180, jr.), OL/DL Wes Hegemann (6-2, 220, so.)
* Outlook – There wasn’t a more shocking turnaround in Ohio last year than the one Minster had. The Wildcats went from 1-9 (in 2009) to the regional final (lost to Lehman Catholic). This year Mister, which won the MAC’s first football state title ever in 1989, will try to make consecutive playoff appearances for the first time since going six straight seasons from 1987-1992. Second year head coach Nate Moore welcomes back seven starters on offense and three on defense but the talent is there. Keep an eye on Niemeyer. Gusching was honorable mention All-MAC last year on offense and defense.
Opener: vs No. 5 Fort Loramie

3. Marion Local (9-3, D-VI R24 Semifinalist)
* Players to Watch – DE Jack Homan (6-3, 200, sr.), LB Logan Albers (6-2, 200, sr.), DL Nate Wendel (5-10, 200, sr.); WR Lee Pierron (6-0, 160, sr.); DB/RB Alex Rosenbeck (6-0, 170, sr.); TE/DE Kellen Goettemoeller (6-2, 200, sr.)
* Outlook – The Flyers lost to MAC rival Delphos St. John’s in the D-VI state semifinals last year, but return enough talent to make the playoffs for the 12th time in 13 years. Marion Local has played in five state finals since 1999 and has four titles. The Flyers have holes to fill on offense, but Rosenbeck and Goettemoeller are vets. Keep an eye on sophomore QB Adam Bertke (6-4, 210). Homan anchors the defense, which head coach Tim Goodwin (128-36 career record) said will be a strength thanks to a seasoned corps of DBs and LBs. The return of FB/LB Logan Albers (6-2, 190, sr.) who was lost to an injury in Week 3 last year is big.
Opener: @ Lima Shawnee

4. Delphos St. John’s (15-0, D-VI State Champion)
* Players to Watch – LB Kyle Neumeier (5-10, 205, sr.), WR/DB Tanner Calvelage (6-0, 180, sr.), RB/LB Jordan Bergfeld (5-11, 195, sr.), WR/DB Ryan Densel (5-9, 155, sr.), DL Drew Neumeier (n/a, sr.)
* Outlook – The Blue Jays have gone 42-3, made three straight D-VI state finals and won two state championships since 2008. A fourth straight trip to Stark County isn’t out of the question but it will be a stiff challenge for a team that lost 21 seniors and plays in the MAC. The Jays two non-conference games are Lima Central Catholic and Detroit Central Catholic (Michigan’s 11-time D-I champion). Head coach Todd Schulte is 127-32 in 12 years.
Opener: @ D-V No. 2 Lima Central Catholic

5. Fort Loramie (8-3, D-VI R24 Quarterfinalist)
* Players to Watch – LB/OL Caleb Ranly (6-1, 210, sr.); DB/WR Kyle Miracle (5-8, 140, sr.); LB/RB Brent Goldschmidt (6-1, 185, sr.); DB/RB Cory Brandewie (5-9, 165, sr.); DB/WR Jake Cordonnier (6-3, 180, sr.); QB Ryan Humphreys (n/a, sr.); LB/RB Logan McGee (6-0, 175, so.); DB/RB Tyler Zeis (5-8, 175, sr.); DB/RB Delaumte Thornton (5-8, 175, so.); LB/OL Josh Frilling (5-8, 195, sr.); OL/DL Ryan Alexander (6-0, 230, sr.); DE/OL Zach Brandewie (6-1, 200, so.)
* Outlook – The Redskins have turned the corner as a program and have reached the playoffs the last two years (losing to Marion Local both times). This year Loramie and third-year head coach Matt Burgbacher (18-6 record) should continue their ascent. Humphreys is a three-year starter who threw for 1,263 yards and 12 TDs last year. He’ll conduct an offense that returns five backs that gained at least 300 yards last season. Cory Brandewie is a dual threat out of the backfield (930 rushing yards, eight TDs, 519 receiving yards, six TDs), while Goldschmidt will share carries (517 rushing yards, 13 TDs). Defensively, Ranly (86 tackles, seven TFL) leads a seasoned unit that also includes Miracle (61 tackles, four INTs), Goldschmidt (53 tackles), Cory Brandewie (44 tackles) and Cordonnier (45 tackles).
Opener: @ No. 2 Minster
