MVP and JJHuddle Managing Editor Eric Frantz earned two firsts Thursday at the Society of Professional Journalists Cincinnati Pro Chapter HOF and Awards banquet in downtown Cincinnati.
For the third year in a row Frantz was recognized by the Cincinnati SPJ as the “Best Sports Columnist”for work that appeared in 2010.
“Eric’s columns stood out because of his subject matter,” the judges said. “He found interesting things to write about. He also displayed a keen eye for detail, which enlivened his writing.”
Frantz also finished first in “Overall Sports Coverage” after finishing runner-up in the category last year. The piece that won it for him was series on “Ohio’s Top 50 Athletes of the Decade (2000-2009).”
“Good research along with criteria that allowed for some genuine surprises made this an article that no doubt created debate in the community,” the judges said. “And that’s always a good thing.”
The Cincinnati SPJ competition includes media in Southwestern Ohio and the Tri-State area (Kentucky and Indiana). Outlets include the Cincinnati Enquirer, Dayton Daily News, Cincinnati Post, Hamilton Journal-News, Middletown Journal, Kentucky Enquirer and Kentucky Post among others.
