Listen up, people!…This week’s MVP Podcast focuses on Boys and Girls Basketball and arguably Ohio’s TOP 2 Hoops Events…
First up we preview the prestigious Classic in the Country as we talk to event founder and Ohio Girls Basketball Report guru Tom Jenkins.
Since its inaugural run in 2004, the Classic in the Country has become a whose-who of high school girls basketball. And it’s also become a showcase for state champions. Over the last seven years, 21 of Ohio’s 28 state champions have played in the CIC. This year three reigning state champions are in the fold again. Overall, 45 Final Four teams in Ohio have played in the CIC during the season they made the state semifinals. Did we mention the last seven Ms. Basketball winners have also played in the CIC?
The ninth annual Good Samaritan Hospital Flyin’ to the Hoop extravaganza gets underway Saturday at Kettering’s Trent Arena and features 34 teams and 19 games over three days. Of the 24 Ohio teams in this year’s field, 19 are ranked in our OhioHShoops.com and JJHuddle.com State Power Poll. Dunbar (D-II) and Taft (D-III) are No. 1. Of the nine national teams, three (Miller Grove, Ga.; Whitney Young, Ill.; and Simeon, Ill.) are ranked in national polls. Four others feature players ranked in the Top 10 nationally in the senior, junior, sophomore and yes, even freshman, classes.
We’re spoiled in Ohio this week. Very rarely do you get the opportunity to see this much talent in one place over three days.
All of this as always is brought to you for free courtesy of JJHuddle.com and Miami Valley Sports Magazine.
