Not much movement in our Fab Five this week. Some teams have yet to strap it on against opponents, but this week will be a big one. Like our football Fab 5 rankings, we will rank the Top 5 area teams in each division.
Division I 1. Beavercreek – Beavers finished second at Elder Duals, losing close bout with the host in the finals. 2. Centerville – The Elks showed their depth in the opener at Olentangy. 3. Fairmont – Placed six in top five finish at Oak Harbor. 4. Springboro – Not the best of openers, questions abound, but Panthers will find a way to work through them. 5. Northmont – Scott Newburg always finds a way to get the best out of his team. Has two returning state qualifiers to help in the process.
Division II: 1. Graham – Lost one match in opener; sets their sites on Blair this weekend at Ironman. 2. Oakwood – Addition of state placer Josh Nelson to go with Alex Kooser and Will Lebouf will make the ‘Jacks tough. Open at Fairmont Invite. 3. Greenville – Jumping into GWOC action off the bat; first week of action will show where they are. 4. Eaton – At Fairmont Invite this weekend. 5. Miami Trace – Returns two state placers.
Division III: 1. Dixie – Returns two state placers, including Ethan Hayes to a strong, deep squad. 2. Carlisle – Survived the Elder Duals; host rival Franklin this week for the Battle of the Barrel. 3. Covington – The Buccs are more than just Andrew DeHart. Covington will have a strong team to compete with the top once again. 4. Versailles – Extra week of work will pay off for Tigers when they hit the mat for real. 5. Troy Christian – Ty Morgan takes his new group to Ironman this weekend.
