MVP Fab 5 Football Rankings: Week 3

All the Number 1s remained the same (that can’t be said for Nos. 2-5) but that doesn’t mean they will this week.
Several HUGE games loom for Fab 5 teams including:
D-IV No. 1 Alter at D-I No. 1 Centerville
D-V No. 3 Coldwater at D-V No. 1 Anna
Undefeated Fenwick at D-IV No. 3 Valley View
D-IV No. 2 Clinton-Massie at undefeated Jonathan Alder
Here’s the Week 3 Rankings…
Division I
1. Centerville (2-0): The Elks have allowed 13 points this season but will be tested this week by a visiting Alter team that’s looking for its third straight D-IV state title. These two neighborhood rivals haven’t met since 1967. Watch out. Previous: 1
2. Northmont (1-1): The T-Bolts rebounded from their loss to Colerain to slap a 24-0 shutout on Princeton. Well done. Now Moeller comes calling. Buckle up. Previous: 3
3. Springfield (1-1): The Wildcats got back on track with a convincing 26-10 win over Upper Arlington. Now they hit the road for a stiff test at undefeated Sycamore. Previous: NR
4. Wayne (0-2): It all depends on Wayne’s QB situation. If Braxton Miller plays, this team can compete with anyone. Regardless, offensively the Warriors will have to execute better. They haven’t scored a point in six straight quarters and got shut out by Canton McKinley this past weekend (26-0). Previous: 2
5. Troy (1-1): The Trojans got a wake-up call at Middletown to the tune of a 38-7 loss. This week they’ll look to hand visiting Fairborn its first loss. Previous: 4
Division II
1. Trotwood-Madison (2-0): The Rams survived an upset bid by Dunbar by scoring the winning TD on a 1-yard run with 60 seconds left. More consistent QB and OL play is a must for Trotwood as the season progresses. Winless Beavercreek won’t be as athletic as Dunbar but creates other problems in the looming Week 3 match-up. Previous: 1
2. Carroll (2-0): The Patriots have yet to allow a point this season with back-to-back wins over Xenia (28-0) and Beavercreek (30-0). Now they try to take down another Greene County school in visiting D-II Bellbrook. Previous: 2
3. Wapakoneta (2-0): The Redskins are rolling having outscored their first two opponents 98-12. This week a trip to Celina awaits. Previous: NR
4. Piqua (1-1): The Indians are in the midst of a five-game stretch against D-I teams and lost a close one against Fairfield in Week 2 (23-20). This week a trip to Xenia looms. Previous: 3
5. Tecumseh (1-1): The Arrows lost a close on elate to Fairborn in Week 1 but rebounded to edge Butler 21-19 last week. Tecumseh travels to winless Miami Trace in Week 3. Previous: NR
Division III
1. Tippecanoe (2-0): The Red Devils shutout Greenville 21-0 and now turn their attention to rival Milton-Union. Previous: 1
2. Eaton (2-0): The Eagles pulled off a huge win by going to St. Henry and pulling out a 9-7 victory. Wow is right. Now they return home to entertain Greenon in their home opener. Previous: 2
3. Chaminade-Julienne (1-1): The Eagles picked up their first win with a strong fourth quarter in a 26-8 win over Thurgood Marshall. They should get their second victory against Ponitz this weekend. Previous: 4
4. Kenton Ridge (2-0): The Cougars are averaging 39 points per game through the first two weeks. It’s doubtful this week’s opponent – Graham – slows them down. RB Anthony Cole-Young scored four TDs against the Lakers including three rushing TDs of 65, 63 and 35 yards. Previous: 5
5. Dunbar (0-2): The Wolverines played Trotwood-Madison tough but fell in the final 60 seconds. If they play like that the rest of the year, they’ll win plenty of games. This week they try to get their first win – and should – at home against Columbus Whetstone. Previous: NR
Division IV
1. Alter (2-0): The Knights take a 32-game on field winning streak into this Friday’s monster showdown with D-I No. 1 Centerville. It’s the first time these two teams have played since 1967 and the series is only signed for this ONE game. The Knights have won 57 of their last 59 overall on the field (had to forfeit two wins to open 2008 season). Previous: 1
2. Clinton-Massie (2-0): The Falcons ran for 509 yards in a 59-7 win over Waynesville. Through two games they’ve outscored the opposition 111-7. This week a tough road test awaits at Jonathan Alder. Previous: 2
3. Valley View (2-0): The Spartans racked up an impressive 48-14 road win at Indian Hill. Now things get interesting with undefeated GCL member Fenwick coming to Germantown for the home opener. This game carries huge Region 16 implications. Previous: 3
4. Ottawa-Glandorf (2-0): The Titans have won their two games – the latest over Lima Shawnee – 78-6. This week O-G travels to Defiance. In Week 4 Kenton comes to town. Previous: 4
5. Carlisle (2-0): The Indians continued to roll with a 35-7 win over visiting Brookville. Now they hit the road for a test at Oakwood. Previous: 5
Division V
1. Anna (2-0): The Rockets followed up an impressive win over Lehman Catholic with a 55-14 throttling of Sherwood Fairview. Anna had 550 yards of total offense against the Apaches. Guess who is coming to town this week? Coldwater. Previous: 1
2. Lima Central Catholic (1-1): The T-Birds rebounded from their loss to Delphos St. John’s by slapping a 51-0 shutout on Convoy Crestview. LCC allowed the Knights varsity offense 32 total yards and no first downs through three quarters. Junior QB Tyler O’Connor completed 7-of-8 passes for 163 yards and three TDs. Paulding is up next. Previous: 4
3. Coldwater (1-1): The Cavaliers bounced back from their Week 1 loss at Kenton with a 48-0 throttling of Ben Logan. Now another test awaits with a trip to Anna. It’s not too early to start talking MAC title and playoff implications. Previous: 3
4. St. Henry (1-1): The Redskins had trouble scoring in the red zone against Eaton and fell 9-7 in a game most expected to be high-scoring. This week St. Henry will work on execution as it opens MAC play at home against Parkway. In Week 4 Coldwater looms. Previous: 2
5. West Liberty-Salem (2-0): The Tigers survived Northwestern 14-6 thanks in part to a 75-yard kickoff return for a TD by Michael Mack, 14 tackles by Tyler Cordell and two interceptions by Greg White. Winless Riverside is on tap this week. Previous: 5
Division VI
1. Delphos St. John’s (2-0): So far the Blue Jays have beaten two playoff teams from last year, the latest victim being Jeromesville Hillsdale (35-7). Up next is winless Minster. But after that looms a date with current D-V No. 2 Anna. Previous: 1
2. Marion Local (2-0): The Flyers were supposed to be tested by last week’s road trip to Springfield Catholic Central. They weren’t. The result? A 36-14 win. This week Marion Local heads to winless New Bremen. Previous: 2
3. Covington (2-0): After getting a scare from New Bremen in Week 1, the Buccs had an easier time of it against Bethel last week (won 28-7). This week a trip to surprising undefeated Bradford – led by former Mr. Football and NFL RB Curtis Enis – is on tap. Previous: 3
4. Lehman Catholic (1-1): The Cavaliers snapped a six-year, 10-game losing streak to teams from the Midwest Athletic Conference with a 34-13 win over Minster. Next up is a visit from D-IV Indian Lake. Previous: 4
5. Ansonia (2-0): The Tigers have faced little resistance thus far, beating Perry and Twin Valley South a combined 96-14. Nothing should change this week with winless National Trail on the docket. Previous: 5
