Last year we unveiled and released the inaugural MVP Fab 5 Football Rankings. This year we’re ready for Round 2.
Today we conclude announcing the new Fab 5 polls with the release of Division VI, where defending poll champion Delphos St. John’s opens at No. 1.
Every Monday throughout the season we will release the new MVP Fab 5 based on the previous week’s outcomes. At the end of the year we will again announce poll champions.
Enjoy…and of course, argue.
Division VI (2009 Champion: Delphos St. John’s)
1. Delphos St. John’s: The Blue Jays are five seconds away from going for their third straight state title. The sour taste of how last year’s final ended has to linger. Unfortunately for DSJ opponents so too do a lot of holdovers from last year’s roster – including four potential D-I recruits.
2. Marion Local: The Flyers look to be DSJ’s main competition for both the MAC and D-VI state title. Senior RB Niles Keller is back after rushing for over 1,500 yards last year.
3. Lehman Catholic: Is this the year? That’s what Cavs fans have been asking the last several seasons and the answer again is – maybe. Lehman returns a ton of talent and a senior class that’s been to three straight postseasons.
4. Covington: The Buccs look loaded and ready to make noise in the postseason. They also appear to have the inside edge on an 11th Cross County Conference title in 16 years. Covington’s senior class has made the postseason three years in a row and has advanced to the second round each time. This is the year the regional final is a real possibility.
5. Ansonia: The Tigers 10-0 run through the regular season last year was sullied a little with a first round playoff exit. Head coach Eugene Hoening (30 years at the school) returns as does a senior class looking to make one last statement.
