Last year we unveiled and released the inaugural MVP Fab 5 Football Rankings. This year we’re ready for Round 2.
Starting today we will release a new Fab 5 poll each day this week. Today we start with Division I, Saturday we wrap with Division VI.
Throughout the season on every Monday will we release the new MVP Fab 5 based on the previous week’s outcomes. At the end of the year we will again announce poll champions.
Enjoy…and of course, argue.
Division I (2009 Champion: Wayne)
1. Centerville: The Elks open at No. 1 thanks in part to a defense that returns nine starters – and three D-I recruits – from a unit that finished first in scoring defense and second in overall defense in the GWOC last year. Senior Dl Michael Bennett (Ohio State) is the No. 1 ranked prospect in Ohio by JJHuddle.
2. Wayne: The Warriors look to defend their Fab 5 title, and have the talent to do so. Wayne has five guys – including Ohio State recruit Braxton Miller (QB) – who have D-I offers. A sick schedule awaits.
3. Northmont: The T-Bolts have plenty of firepower themselves and are looking for their eighth trip to the D-I playoffs in 10 years. Sophomore QB Cameron Belton starts his first season under center, following in his brother’s footsteps: Clay (Maryland) and Chase (Wabash).
4. Springfield: Yeah the Wildcats have Alabama-bound LB Trey DePriest, but they also have a ton of other impact players like senior WR/DB Josh Bass and junior QB George Walker. Springfield was a playoff team last year and should be again.
5. Lebanon: The Warriors lost a lot of offensive production (gone are Dusty Issacs, Trey Bonny and Chase Cochran) from a team that averaged a GWOC-best 417 yards and 33 points per game. The cupboard however is not bare. Three first team All-GWOC selections are back in WRs Luke Goshorn and Brody Wolf and OL Nick Stotts.
