Dayton Jefferson Division VI
Region 24
2009 Record: 3-6
* Players to Watch – WR/DB Cody Latimer (6-3, 205, Sr.); WR/DB Robert Potter (5-10, 167, Jr.); RB/DB Devonta Stargell (5-9, 165, Sr.)
* Outlook – With back-to-back 3-6 seasons, the Broncos would like something different. To get to .500 or beyond, Latimer will have to be special. And he is.
A basketball standout who had 24 points and 12 rebounds in last season’s D-IV state basketball championship game (won by Jefferson), Latimer has offers on the table from Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Akron and Indiana.
As a junior Latimer caught 45 passes for 911 yards and eight TDs. He also carried the ball 24 times for 260 yards and six more TDs. Defensively he registered 94 tackles and an interception. Icing? He’s got it – having returned two of his three kick-off returns for TDs.
In addition to latimer, Potter and Stargell are also viable options and versatile players.
Potter caught 41 passes last year for 509 yards and four TDs. On defense he registered 65 tackles and four interceptions.
Stargell had 85 tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries last year.
“(The outlook is very bright,” Jefferson head coach Daniel Parks Sr. said. “All our skill positions are returning and we should make some noise in the Metro Buckeye Conference.”
* Schedule – The Broncos schedule includes several steep tasks. Games against Thurgood Marshall, Grove City Christian, Fort Loramie and Lehman Catholic will test Jefferson’s moxy.
