This week’s MVP Podcast spectacular celebrates the end of the 2009-10 school year with a humble parade of champions.
We’ll start by introducing you to Chris Uhle the new OHSAA D-I pole vault champion. He is also the new state record holder in that event having posted an incredible 16-foot-9 vault in the process.
Then we’ll introduce you to his identical twin brother, Joe Uhle, who entered the event as the state record holder and number one seed. He jumped 16-foot-0 and finished in second place.
Both brothers are juniors at Olentangy Liberty High School just outside of Columbus and they are likely to challenge Pat Matson’s all-time high school record of 17-feet-6 next spring. They are likely to bury that bad boy like Bob Beamon did when he took his one and only long jump at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.
One day you might just see this duo at the Olympics – it isn’t even close to being a far-fetched proposition. Write it down. If you don’t you’ll likely see their older brother Mike who is a six-time MAC champion at the University of Akron.
Consider that Mike didn’t come close to clearing 16-foot-0 in high school (he, too, was the state pole vault champion) and you ‘ll understand just how good these twins really are.
Following in hot persuit is Dustin Brode of Canfield High School. He is the state record holder in the shot-put as well as the two-time defending champion. He will attend Harvard in the fall.
Also in the studio is Jimmy Hull, the pole vault coach for Thomas Worthington High School as well as for the Midwest Meet of Champions. He is an outstanding interview.
Finally. you’ll meet Kirk Kadel the head coach of Newton High School’s fast pitch softball squad. Newton, located in the incredibly small town of Pleasant Hill (P-Hill, Miami County), is absolutely mad about their girls team, and they have good reason.
With only 60 girls in the entire school, NHS beat some serious odds this season to win the OHSAA D-IV state title, and they lived to tell the tale.
All of this and more–for free–from your friends at the MVPpodcast.
