Sidney High School had a towering visitor Tuesday. Dayton Flyer center Kurt Huelsman, fresh off an NIT title win over North Carolina, was interviewed by school officials for a possible teaching and coaching position.
Huelsman, who stands 6-10, met with long time boys basketball coach Tom Clark, new girls head coach Greg Snyder, and AD Jeff Courter. Following lunch and more meetings, Huelsman met with Superintendant Pat O’Donnell.
Nobody is saying anything, but the speculation is that when coach Clark decides to retire, Huelsman would take over. In terms of running a top notch program, Huelsman couldn’t find a better mentor.
While playing at St. Henry, Huelsman scored 1016 career points. His senior season he averaged 15 points and nine rebounds per game and was named D III Northwest District POY and First Team All-Ohio.
Huelsman has the distinction of the most consecutive starts streak of 137 games for UD. For his career, he averaged five points, four rebounds, and 21 minutes of action per game. He shot 47 percent from the field.
