Today we continue the countdown of JJHuddle’s “Top 50 Ohio High School Athletes of the Decade” for 1999-2009. Every Monday through Friday from now until March 26, a new athlete will be released.
Today’s entry is arguably the state’s best volleyball player – ever…
20. Nicole Fawcett, Ben Logan, Volleyball, 2001-2005: It can be argued that Fawcett is the biggest volleyball recruit in Ohio history. When she graduated, Fawcett was the state’s all-time leader in kills (1,513) and was a unanimous top three recruit nationally. She was a three-time first team All-Ohio selection, a three-time district player of the year and a four-time first team all-Central Buckeye Conference and district pick. While at Ben Logan, Fawcett set the Raiders record for kills in a season each year she played and led the Raiders to a record of 92-13 (three league titles and two district championships). She was also the team captain all four years. A member of the USA Junior National Team, Fawcett went to Penn State where she earned All-American honors all four years and book ended her career with national freshman and player of the year honors. She helped Penn State win national titles her junior and senior year.
Fawcett was also a three-time lettermen in track and a two-time regional finalist in the high jump.
