KETTERING — All was going according to plan for CJ Saturday night, having won their first game against Clinton Massie 25-4, then 25-17 in game two. But it was Halloween, and the spirits were out in full during the third game of the match.
About half way through the set, the fire alarm sounded, resulting in a very annoying sound and very bright strobes. The scene lasted for a good 20 to 25 minutes. After the Kettering Fire Department finally arrived and shut off the false alarm, the set was resumed.
This time, the Falcons of Massie stayed a bit closer, pushing the game to a 25-21 CJ victory. The win advanced the 16-5 Eagles to their first regional appearance since 2002.
Before all these Halloween shenanigans began for CJ and Clinton Massie, Tippecanoe faced McNicholas. Throughout the match, the Devils fans were in full force, cheering and raving for their team. And this was rightfully so. The match was all Tippecanoe, as they overpowered the Rockets in three games, 25-11, 25-18, and 25-17.
This victory was the 24th for the school this season; having only lost to Alter in four games. The Red Devils will have a chance to avenge this on Thursday.
In the last match of the day, the Alter Lady Knights overpowered Urbana, once again in just 3 games. However, Alter was presented with a bit more of a challenge than many expected. The scores were 25-21, 25-15, and 25-14. The win clinched the eighth district title for the Knights in 10 years.
