The regular season is over and so too is the MVP Fab 5 Football Rankings. This week we present our final standings and crown poll champions.
Soon we’ll crown regional and state champions.
The “Second Season” begins next Friday, but for now, here’s how the regular season rankings wrapped…btw, for those going – good luck in the playoffs. Division I
1. Wayne (7-3): The Warriors grabbed a share of the GWOC Central title and a playoff berth with convincing victory over Springfield. Now Cincinnati Elder awaits in the first round of the playoffs.
2. Lebanon (8-2): The Warriors will have to find solace in the GWOC South Division title. There will be no postseason for one of the area’s best offenses and teams.
3. Centerville (8-2): The Elks earned a share of the GWOC Central Division title and another postseason berth. The trend continues.
4. Northmont (6-4): The T-Bolts saw their string of seven-straight GWOC titles end and they didn’t make the playoffs. Still, there’s no doubt they were one of the best big school teams in Dayton this season.
5. Springboro (8-2): The Panthers didn’t make the playoffs and didn’t win the GWOC North. Still, 8-2 isn’t a bad season. There’s plenty to build on and celebrate. Division II
1. Trotwood-Madison (7-3): The Rams are back-to-back GWOC North Division champions and headed to the playoffs. Quite a feat for a team that started off 2-3.
2. Tecumseh (9-1): The Arrows won a share of the CBC Kenton Division title and earned a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Tecumseh could make a run at the regional title.
3. Carroll (6-4): After a 3-4 start, the Patriots closed with three straight victories to finish painfully close to the playoffs (No. 9 in Region 8).
4. West Carrollton (8-2): Despite a tough road loss at Goshen, the Pirates are playoff bound. Wow.
5. Wilmington (7-3): The Hurricane didn’t beat Turpin for the FAVC title, but they did earn their first playoff berth since 2005 and third overall. The postseason is a nice treat for a community hit hard by economical struggles lately.
Division III
1. Graham (8-2): The Falcons won’t be going to the postseason after finishing ninth in computer points in Region 10. That’s a shame, because this team is playoff-worthy. A CBC Mad River and MVP Fab 5 title will have to suffice.
2. Tippecanoe (9-1): The Red Devils earned a share of the CBC Kenton Division title and yet another playoff berth. Now the goal is to advance.
3. Eaton (8-2): The Eagles, who won the SWBL Southwestern Division title, are heded to the playoffs for the fourth time in five years.
4. Bellefontaine (8-2): The Chieftains didn’t get a share of the CBC Kenton Division title (so close with 13-10 OT loss to Tecumseh), but they did get an invite to the postseason.
5. Chaminade Julienne (8-2): Eagles couldn’t snap losing streak to Alter but they did end four-year playoff drought. Division IV
1. Alter (10-0): Knights have won 41 straight regular season games on the field and eight straight regular season finales over rival Chaminade Julienne now. Defense of their D-IV state title started a few minutes ago.
2. Clinton-Massie (10-0): Falcons ride stingy defense (53 points allowed all year) into yet another D-IV playoff appearance. A regional final date with Alter seems intriguing.
3. Thurgood Marshall (7-3): Cougars are the best team in Ohio that won’t be in the playoffs. Marshall went 10-0 on the field but three forfeited wins in Weeks 1-3 cost them the playoffs. No easy way to say it. Squad will go down as one of the Dayton City League’s best – ever.
4. Carlisle (8-2): Indians own a share of the SWBL Buckeye Division title and are playoff bound. Quite a year in Carlisle.
5. Waynesville (8-2): See Carlisle…Spartans too own a piece of SWBL Buckeye title and are postseason bound. Now they’ll try to add the school’s second postseason victory ever.
Division V
1. Coldwater (9-1): Cavaliers have won 36 of their last 39 games. Now they’ll try to win five more and deliver another state title, which would be their second in three years..
2. Anna (8-2): Rockets fell on the road at Marion Local to end the regular season. Maybe they were looking ahead, but regardless it coast them a home game. Now, though, they’ll be focused.
3. St. Henry (7-3): Redskins are head back to the postseason for the first tie in three years.
4. West Liberty-Salem (10-0): The Tigers defense continues to suffocate opponents (allowed 70 points all year). Now the OHC champs find themselves in the deep region 20 postseason party.
5. Miami East (8-2): Vikings fell short in bid to win the CCC title and earn a playoff bid with 12-7 loss to Ansonia. Still, when was 8-2 ever a disapointing season in Casstown? Never. Division VI
1. Delphos St. John’s (10-0): The Blue Jays can now turn their attention to defending their D-VI state title. Opponents take note.
2. Ansonia (10-0): Tigers complete undefeated season. Now how long of a run can they make in the postseason. The CCC champions have plenty of offense.
3. Lehman Catholic (7-3): Cavaliers made regional final in 2007 and state semis last year. Natural progression puts them in the state title game. They can do it.
4. Southeastern (8-2): Trojans are back in the postseason since 2002. That’s a huge feat for a senior class that went through an 0-10 season as freshmen.
5. Fort Loramie (8-2): Redskins didn’t get the program’s first victory over Lehman, but they did earn the school’s first playoff berth. That’s a nice consolation prize and one they’ll celebrate.
