Entering Week 6 of the high school football season, several teams are starting to think playoffs and league titles. This week there are several match ups between Fab 5 teams, which will affect both chases…here they are.
Key match-ups pitting MVP Fab 5 teams include:
Wayne vs Northmont
Monroe vs Carlisle
Springboro vs Lebanon
Anna vs St. Henry
Marion Local vs Delphos St. John’s
Alter vs Carroll
Here’s how the Fab 5 field shapes up after Week 5:
Division I
1. Centerville (4-1): Last season Springfield surprised the Elks. You can bet Centerville will be ready for the Wildcats this week as GWOC Central play starts.
2. Northmont (3-2): T-Bolts jumped on Fairborn early and never let up. Now they see if they can do the same against Wayne.
3. Springboro (5-0): Panthers eked out the road win at Sidney. Now they get ready for their rival – Lebanon – in a game that carries huge GWOC South and playoff implications.
4. Lebanon (4-1): Warriors re-enter the Fab 5 with an impressive win over Piqua. Now its ‘Boro Week.
5. Wayne (3-2): Warriors slipped with Braxton Miller out. Now they get Northmont.
Division II
1. Tecumseh (5-0): Can anyone slow down the Arrows? Kenton Ridge gets a crack at it this week.
2. West Carrollton (4-1): Pirates righted ship with another win. They should get a few more the next four weeks with games against opponents who are currently 3-16.
3. Trotwood-Madison (2-3): Rams coming off back-to-back tough losses to Wayne and Springfield. This is a good team.
4. Carroll (3-2): The Patriots have won two straight. It will be hard to make it three with Alter next on the schedule.
5. Sidney (2-3): Yellow Jackets are below .500, but their losses – none blow-outs – have come against notable competition (Bellefontaine, Beavercreek and Springboro). Key meeting with Fairborn this week. Division III
1. Bellefontaine (5-0): Chieftains get Stebbins in Week 6 before they start on a final four week gauntlet that includes Tippecanoe, Springfield Shawnee and Tecumseh….
2. Eaton (4-1): Eagles won third straight with impressive effort against Oakwood.
3. Graham (3-2): Falcons couldn’t get anything going against Tecumseh, but to date, no one has. Season opening win over Tipp means they still earn the right to be ranked higher – right now.
4. Tippecanoe (4-1): Red Devils have won four straight but things get tougher this week with Springfield Shawnee heading to town.
5. Monroe (4-1): Hornets didn’t impress in 28-12 win over Madison but maybe they were looking ahead. Monroe hosts Carlisle this Friday in what looks to be SWBL Buckeye Division championship game.
Division IV
1. Alter (5-0): Knights have allowed 36 points through five games. Rivalry game with Carroll awaits.
2. Clinton-Massie (5-0): Falcons have allowed just 32 points this season. London – this week’s opponent – will be a challenge.
3. Carlisle (5-0): Indians are rolling. Now they get stiffest test to date – road game at Monroe in meeting of SWBL Buckeye Division leaders.
4. Thurgood Marshall (2-3): On the field Marshall is undefeated. Question is now after the forfeits if there are enough points remaining in their schedule to make the postseason.
5. Fenwick (5-0): Things get decidedly more difficult for the Falcons this week with a road game at Chaminade Julienne.
Division V
1. St. Henry (5-0): Redskins survived Marion Local. Now they get Anna and Coldwater back-to-back. Welcome to the MAC.
2. Coldwater (5-0): Cavaliers were worried about Anna, but beat the Rockets 27-13 anyway. Winless Parkway awaits this week before back-to-back meetings with current unbeatens St. Henry and Delphos St. John’s.
3. West Liberty-Salem (5-0): Tigers took command of the OHC with a shutout of Southeastern.
4. Anna (4-1): Rockets try to rebound from loss to Coldwater by hosting St. Henry. Not the ideal situation.
5. Miami East (4-1): Vikings beat Covington for second straight year. Impressive.. Division VI
1. Delphos St. John’s (5-0): St. John’s beat a game Versailles squad. Now they get Marion Local.
2. Marion Local (3-2): Flyers nearly got St. Henry (lost 10-7). Now they tackle their third straight behomth in St. John’s. Good news is it’s a home game.
3. Ansonia (5-0): Tigers have failed to score less than 42 points this season.
4. Fort Loramie (5-0): Redskins should be 6-0 heading into Week 7 showdown with Jonathan Alder.
5. Southeastern (4-1): Trojans dropped their first game of the season at West Liberty-Salem, but no time to lick their wounds with another road trip to Mechanicsburg days away.
