As we enter the Week 5 of high school football, there are several solid programs that have separated themselves after four games. A few of them meet this Friday.
Key match-ups pitting MVP Fab 5 teams include:
Coldwater vs Anna
Northmont vs Fairborn
Tecumseh vs Graham
West Liberty-Salem vs Southeastern
St. Henry vs Marion Local
Of the teams listed above, only Fairborn is a new entrant in the Fab 5. But they aren’t the only new team in the rankings this week. Below week take a look at the MV Fab 5 for Week 5.
Division I
1. Centerville (3-1): Elks get back on track with sizeable win over Troy. Miamisburg will be another warm-up prior to GWOC Central action, which starts Week 6 against Springfield.
2. Wayne (3-1): Warriors got a scare from Trotwood-Madison, which was just a play away from forcing overtime (failed two-point PAT). Warriors should continue to rebound from Glenville debacle against Troy this week. Huge game with Northmont looms in Week 6.
3. Northmont (2-2): T-Bolts snapped two-game losing skid with win over Xenia. Much tougher foe in Fairborn awaits.
4. Springboro (4-0): Panthers try to beat third straight GWOC North team this week (at Sidney).
5. Fairborn (3-1): Verdict is still out on the Skyhawks, but they earned this spot with win over previous No. 5 and undefeated Beavercreek. We’ll see what they do against Northmont.
Division II
1. Tecumseh (3-0): Same speech – Arrows are rolling. Get out the way.
2. Trotwood-Madison (2-2): Rams lost to Wayne, but they’ve established themselves as the favorites in the GWOC North.
3. Wilmington (3-1): The Hurricane announced their arrival with statement win over Edgewood. Opening loss to West Carrollton is long forgotten.
4. West Carrollton (3-1): Dare we say the Pirates got caught reading their own headlines? Who knows, but they should not have lost to Greenville. Suddenly West Carrollton has expectations – which is a good thing.
5. Sidney (2-2): Yellow Jackets snapped two-game losing skid with win over Miamisburg. Tough assignment this week with Springboro coming to town.
Division III
1. Bellefontaine (4-0): Same deal…Chieftains still rocking and rolling. Undefeated heading into Week 10 showdown with Tecumseh looks like reality.
2. Eaton (3-1): Eagles handled Brookville with ease.
3. Graham (3-1): Falcons find out how good they are with road game at Tecumseh.
4. Tippecanoe (3-1): Red Devils won third in a row with victory over Indian Lake.
5. Monroe (3-1): Hornets needed double-OT to get past Bellbrook, but a win is a win. Division IV
1. Alter (4-0): The Knights handed Badin its first loss. Cincinnati McNicholas is next…poor Rockets.
2. Clinton-Massie (4-0): Falcons continue to win. Handed Hillsboro its first win 44-7. Ouch.
3. Carlisle (4-0): Indians seem to be on collision course with Monroe for SWBL Buckeye title after drilling Waynesville 41-33. Carlisle and Monroe meet in Week 6.
4. Thurgood Marshall (4-0): Cougars head to Greenville well aware of the Green Wave’s upset abilities. Key will be can Greenville defenders find the ball in Marshall’s Wing-T attack.
5. Fenwick (4-0): Falcons are flying high. 21-12 win over Purcell-Marian last week is their closest game.
Division V
1. St. Henry (4-0): Redskins are on a mission.
2. Anna (4-0): See St. Henry. Big game with Coldwater looms.
3. Coldwater (4-0): See Anna. Cavs impressed in big win over Marion Local. Host Anna on Friday.
4. West Liberty-Salem (4-0): Tigers gave up 20 points, but still won by 43 over Triad. West Lib hosts undefeated Southeastern this Friday in what boils down to OHC title game.
5. Miami East (3-1): Vikings back on track after losing opener to Milton-Union. Have hands full against Covington on Friday.
Division VI
1. Delphos St. John’s (4-0): St. John’s crushed New Bremen 70-6. Next u is Versailles, which should be a better measuring stick. Marin Local awaits in Week 6.
2. Marion Local (3-1): Flyers lost to Coldwater big. No shame in that though, since most teams would..
3. Ansonia (4-0): Tigers face another one-win team this week in Arcanum.
4. Fort Loramie (4-0): Another week, another Redskins win. I see a theme forming here.
5. Southeastern (4-0): The Trojans can make even more noise with win over West Liberty-Salem this week.
